Maple Valley Idol, Jr. Auditions
Calling all solo singers ages 7 to 15 to audition on Saturday, February 18, for the 2012 Maple Valley Idol, Jr. Competition! Compete for the honor of being crowned the Maple Valley Idol, Jr. 2012! Including this honor, there will be opportunities to perform in public during the year. Only the first 30 singers to register will be auditioned. Go to www.maplevalleyarts.com to find out how to register, deadline is February 14. Auditions will take place on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the Creative Arts Center, 23220 Maple Valley Hwy. SE, Suite 15, Maple Valley from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Singers will audition either a cappella or with a soundtrack on a single track CD (Karaoke version). No iPods or MP3 players please. Contestants will perform one song of their choice. A panel of judges will choose the top 14 contestants to perform in the finals on March 23 at the Tahoma Middle School Theatre, 7:00 p.m. Judges will provide feedback immediately following each performance. Finalists will show a natural ability, quality of performance, showmanship and audience appeal. Join the many talented young people in Maple Valley by auditioning for Maple Valley Idol, Jr. 2012. The next class at the Creative Arts Center to be taught by Gary La Turner is Abstract Portrait Painting: A Contemporary Approach to Portraits. This exciting class will give participants the freedom to work in the media of their choice in creating abstract or impressionistic portraits. The concept of portraits will be expanded to include aspects of personality, aesthetics, as well as relationships in time and space.
Participants are responsible to bring art making materials and equipment to support their individual expressions. Materials include several inspirational photographs of two or three different people. The photographs should focus on the distinctive facial features and interesting background images. Photographs of children are not recommended for this series of classes. 4-Week Portrait Drawing Intensive
Class meeting dates: March 22, 29, April 5, and 12
Instructor Michael will guide you through an intense four-week class all about portrait drawing. You will draw from a different model each of the four weeks. Classes will begin with a short demo, and then you will have the remainder of the class to draw from the model with help from the instructor. Great for beginners looking to get their feet wet, and great for intermediate artists looking for more experience and model time. Topics covered in the demos will include procedure, measuring, simplification and design, values, and edges. This class is a great chance to really focus your drawing abilities for a short time!
