Once again commuters along the Maple Valley/Black Diamond Hwy. area of Maple Valley
were witness to yet another traffic incident.
A day after clean-up from a tractor-trailer accident and fire on Thursday, July
28, on the 25700 block of Maple Valley-Black Diamond Rd. SE, a 35-year-old Seattle
man allegedly covered in blood went to a Renton fire station on Petrovitsky at approximately
6:12 p.m. and threw a purse at one of the on-duty personnel stating he had done
something bad to his girlfriend. After the male made his statement and left the
station, a call was put into dispatch about the suspicious circumstance and his
leaving in a red Ford Explorer heading eastbound on SE Petrovitsky Rd.
While one deputy began responding to the call, another deputy positioned himself
at the Maple Valley end of Petrovitsky by Sweeney Rd. SE. As the male, followed
by other vehicles behind him, drove past, the deputy got in behind the line and
confirmed that the male was ahead of him.
Stopping behind the male with his emergency lights activated at the stoplight in
the left turn lane for SE 232nd St., the deputy observed the male looking back at
him through a side view mirror. At one point after the light turned green and the
male did not move, the deputy opened his door and motioned for the driver to go
to the right.
Not pulling to the right after making a left turn, the male was stopped once again
for a red signal at the westbound on-ramp of Hwy. 18. With the light still red,
the male waited for a left turn driver getting on the westbound ramp to clear the
area before driving through the red light and continuing towards Maple Valley Hwy.
While driving towards the highway, the male was observed drinking from a beer can.
Once in the left turn lane, the male stopped momentarily before disregarding the
red signal and then made a turn heading north along the Maple Valley Hwy. As the
male descended down hill towards SE 216th St., he was observed continuing to drink
from a beer can.
At 216th, the male made a right turn. Climbing the hill along 216th where there
was no traffic in sight, a deputy pulled alongside of the male’s vehicle and executed
a PIT maneuver that had been cleared for use a short time before being carried out.
The vehicle spun to a stop next to a guardrail across from the original Maple Valley
School (a.k.a. the old “bus barn”).
After being blocked in by police vehicles, the male was told to exit his vehicle.
Once exited, he was handcuffed and searched. Complaining about an injury, the male
was checked by Aid, but had no visible injuries and was cleared. While being checked,
the male stated that he was hoping for another beer. The male, who appeared intoxicated,
had about three cases of beer on the front passenger seat.
The purse, which he had dropped off approximately 10 minutes earlier, was brought
to the scene by the deputy who was first responding to the call. The male stated
he had found the purse and should have dropped it off at a church. Wanted on an
Assault charge by Seattle Police Department (SPD), the male was transported to a
drop-off point and released to SPD along with the purse and his property.
