image Serving the Black Diamond/Maple Valley communities since 1969, TRM Wood Products not only has a new building, but they have and will be expanding their product lines for the building needs of the community.

From do-it-yourselfers to contractors, TRM is the place to go for building materials and hardware in this area. There is a large selection of lumber products, plywood, decking, siding, roofing, doors, windows, joists, and trusses. They also carry a number of specialty items along with hard to find items. And if the customer needs custom rough lumber, they can MILL it!

Originally, the Morris family came from Wales at the end of the 1800s and immigrated across the country to settle in the coal fields of the Puget Sound area, eventually making their homes in the Enumclaw/Black Diamond area.

In 1969, Evan Morris and his nephew, Tom Maks, started TRM in front of the Palmer Coking Coal Office in Black Diamond. By 1972, Morris cleared a portion of his Maple Valley property in the 4 Corners area and erected their first building. Morris took over 100 percent of the business in 1992 until his passing in 2006 when it was turned over to his son, John Morris.

In 2007, John and his sisters (Anna, Jeanine, Kathy and Sara) decided to develop their Four Corners property with Peter Powell of Powell Development Company. The plans called for a new Lumberyard and the Maple Valley Town Square. While rumors flew for a while that TRM was heading back to Black Diamond, John could see that it just was not going to work out so the decision was made to stay on the original Maple Valley land site along with Fred Meyer and the other retail buildings yet to be developed.

Then on May 5, 2011, the first tree came down to make room for the new development. Now – 7 months later – John and his staff are ready and have opened their doors on the new building.

“We are just a good ol’ fashioned lumberyard that is committed to supplying materials to build a better community,” said John.

With the official opening on Monday, December 12, the doors to the new store are now open for business (Mon-Fri 7 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sat. 8 a.m.-4 p.m.), with the Grand Opening coming this spring, which, according to John, will be BIG. Until then, John and his staff are prepared to serve the community (homeowners, do-it yourselfers and contractors alike) and encourage everyone to stop by for some coffee and popcorn while enjoying all the familiar faces at TRM, your local Lumberyard!

* Side note for all – if you have been wondering what TRM stands for, the answer is: “Timber Related Materials” --- and more.
