The Rotary Club of MV received a grant for their Homelessness project, and a check
in the amount of $13,500 was presented to Colleen Starr, Executive Director of Vine
Maple Place. The project, which was spearheaded by Bryan Kelley, MV Rotarian and
owner of Maple Valley Auto, will help those at risk of losing their homes by paying
to have their car repaired. Often, when people have to choose between paying rent
and paying for car repair, they choose to repair their car. The reason for this
is because people can live in their car, and they need their car in order to drive
to their place of employment. The grant will pay for 80% of the repair cost, the
auto shop will pay for 10%, and the family will pay the remaining 10%. The project
will be a joint effort between Vine Maple Place, MV Food Bank, and local auto repair
shops.
