Carbon Monoxide is Possible Cause

Kent, Wash. – January 20, 2012 – At about 7:00 p.m. Friday night, a family on Kent’s East Hill called 9-1-1 complaining of dizziness, headaches and nausea. The family told firefighters that they had been using a small charcoal BBQ indoors to heat the house, located in the 25400 block of 98th Avenue South, when they began feeling ill. Kent firefighters treated the family at the scene and transported them to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Residents are reminded that they should never bring BBQs or generators into or near their home. Carbon monoxide (CO), a byproduct of these devices, can pose a danger to everyone in the home. CO is a clear and odorless gas that blocks the body’s ability to absorb oxygen. Symptoms include: headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue.

If you or anyone in your home experiences these symptoms and CO poisoning is suspected, call 9-1-1 immediately and leave your residence.
