“Wreaths Across America,” the national non-profit organization dedicated to decorating
the graves of our military veterans each holiday season, will be holding a wreath-laying
ceremony and assisting with the placing of evergreen wreaths at Tahoma National
Cemetery on Saturday, December 10. Everyone is welcome and those wishing to participate
are to gather at the Main Flagpole at the cemetery no later than 8:45 a.m. In 2008,
over 60,000 volunteers placed over 100,000 wreaths in our nation’s national and
state veterans cemeteries. At Tahoma National Cemetery, the number of wreaths placed
on graves has been increasing each year. Those who would like to sponsor a wreath
($15) can do so online at
www.wreathsacrossamerica.org using the group code WAGSM001 (Washington Gold
Star Mothers) and the cemetery code WATNCK (Washington Tahoma National Cemetery
Kent). The wreaths are delivered directly to the cemetery. You can also purchase
a patriotic pair. One wreath is sent to Tahoma National Cemetery and the other is
shipped to your home address. This program also supports the Gold Star Mothers (mothers
who have lost a child in service to their country) and is their major fundraiser.
A portion of the proceeds are returned to the group and are used to finance service
projects for veterans, active duty and their families.
