Maple Valley Fire & Life Safety held its 12th CERT (Community Emergency Response
Team) class and has twenty-four new graduates. The eight week class covered Disaster
Preparedness, Medical I & II, Triage, Light Search and Rescue, Fire Suppression
and Disaster Psychology.
On the final night they participated in a Disaster Simulation Drill with seventeen
patients who were decorated in blood and fake injuries. The class also had two special
guest speakers as well, Scott Currie from Maple Valley HAM Radio Club and Mama Passarelli.
Scott talked about our current communication systems and how all of it may be inoperative
following a disaster with the exception of HAM Radios. Mama talked about her experiences
helping to feed rescuers in the field and the families and friends of the four Lakewood
Police Officers who were killed in the line of duty. She also served everyone her
wonderful homemade soup.
Congratulations to the following new CERT Members:
Lonnie Bang, Sue Bartlett, Eva Bennett, Juliena Bennett, Katherine Cramer, Grace
