image Election of officers to head up the Black Diamond Historical Society (BDHS) will be just one of the items taking place at the upcoming Annual General Membership meeting on Sunday, October 23.

With election of Officers and Directors taking place only once every two years now, this General Membership meeting is especially important. Those members in good standing will be able to cast their vote for their favorite candidate.

The meeting will also include a special guest appearance by artist Ruth Ayers Hofto, who will be picking the winning ticket for a raffle of her original piece of artwork painted in 2006 at the age of 96 years young called Mount Rainier campground: As I remember it in the 1930s. Growing up in Issaquah, Hofto was encouraged at a very young age by a local butcher, who saw her painting of a bowl full of pansies at school, to keep painting. And paint she did. Over the years she has had exhibits in many galleries and venues as well as public and private shows. On April 2, 2007, a tribute to her work appeared in the Tacoma News Tribune.

The public is also invited to attend the meeting where they will be entertained with a musical presentation of original songs. The songs have been written and composed by Steve Israel, who will be playing the guitar and harmonica along with accompanist Fran Wold on the mandolin.

Tickets for the Mt. Rainier campground… painting are $5 each for anyone over 18 years old. There is also no need to be present to win. Proceeds will be dedicated to the BDHS Newsletter Fund in order to help support the 35-year history of providing the area’s historical past through newsletters to society members along with interested individuals and businesses.

Tickets may be purchase at the Black Diamond Museum (located at 32627 Railroad Ave. in Black Diamond), which is now open on Winter Schedule: Thursdays – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturdays & Sundays – Noon to 3 p.m.
