image Tahoma girls JV soccer team played an intense game against the Kent Meridian Royals on Tuesday, October 18, 2011; at French Field. They have one yet again with a score of 5-0. Yet another win. There were hits, kicks, and a lot of running. But these girls know how to tough it out. Rachel Stoecker made a great attempt of a goal with 33.35 left in the first half. She later made the same attempt and scored. Stoecker made another goal when #9, Taylor Clarin headed it towards her. Clarin also got a goal herself during the second half when Cara Scammon, #6 made an assist which led Clarin perfectly to make the goal. Renee Hancock, #2 attempts, and scored two headers throughout the game. During the first half with 11.30 left on the clock, Renee makes an open header to the goal. Hancock also makes an excellent header towards the end of the game marking up herself with two points. Once again the opposing team was yet to get a goal. Most of the game consisted of being in Royals territory. The team seems to be getting better and better. Hayley Warren, #11 played once again a great match. Not afraid to go for the ball. A lot of attempts were made by maybe of the players. Rachel Duty, #4 attempted a header, but was unable to get the ball in the goal. She later made a great assist, to tell a fellow teammate score.

The team is set to play their fellow Auburn Trojans at our own home stadium on Thursday, October 20, 2011. Let’s all hope they keep their undefeated streak they have been holding onto at the start of this incredible season!

Lady Bears Roll, But Loose League Championship Hopes

By Wade Whitton Jr.

The sixth in state ranked Tahoma Bears, looked for this three game week, in hopes that they could work at reviving their championship, that they had defended or the pass two years.

The bears faced off first against the Royals of Kent Meridian, a team who is in a rebuilding time, who the bears rocked eight zero, in their last appearance. Tahoma took the field on Tuesday afternoon at French Field, with a desire to score big and get things rolling for the week, and the girls did exactly that, only seventeen minutes into things. When Tory Tappero fired a ball right up and over the goalies hands, the assist came from Mackenzie Henke who cut the ball through the defense. Only a Short time later, senior Baca Velasco followed the Tory goal and was followed up four minutes later by Lauren Duty. The Bears’ offense was rolling, and the defense had things locked down on the weak Royals. The bears seized a three to zero lead, only twenty minutes into the game, showing their dominance in the early parts of the game. As the Bears started to slow down the game minutes before half, Lauren Duty sliced another goal in to bring Tahoma up by four heading into half. Tory Tappero wasn’t done after her goal that started the first half, she was the first to score also in the second half only twenty seconds into the second half. Then exactly six minutes later the Bears own Maddie Smith, scored a goal of her own to put the bears up six and allowed them to play the ball and run out the clock for another big win over the Royals.

Tahoma then rolled at home on Thursday night against Auburn in Bill Maxwell Stadium, in another big bubble game to push them into the contention, for that league title that was so close to their reach. The first twenty minutes of this game was a game where no one could keep possession, no control of the ball, and no ability to pass it anywhere. It appeared that whoever made a mistake was going to get scored on. Auburn was first to make the costly mistake that was going to curse the team, and was capitalized on by Mackenzie Henke, who came around the corner and flicked the ball into the net, that was originally deflected out into the box and was in a scramble to be either put in the net or out of the box. The bears had a very limited amount of shots that were put on goal yet they still capitalized on three other chances, one more shortly after Mackenzie’s goal putting the Bears up by two going into the half. The second half was much like the first, defined by strong defense that the bears are very consistent at, and a two point half that were set very well by the Bears. The Bears finished Auburn off in a four to zero, shut out.

Tahoma then went to Kent Lake for their third game of the week, the one that would decide if they were going to earn the League title, they had to win; a tie or loss would knock them out of contention. The Bears and the Falcons, faced off at French Field for a big game late in the season. The teams are two of the best teams in the division, and have some of the best defenses in the league. The team’s defenses controlled the game, as both teams shut each other out, forcing a minimal amount of opportunities, and shots. The bears big week finished in a huge disappointment due to the inability to score, which led to their loss of the League championship.
