Black Diamond Cub Scout Pack 581 presented Garrett McGann with The Pack Merit Award
for Lifesaving.
On the morning of September 11, 2011 while swimming in the wave pool at The Great
Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound, Washington, Garrett assisted a young swimmer in distress
until help could arrive. A young boy swimming nearby had slipped down into his lifejacket
and was struggling to keep his head above water. The young boy also had a hearing
disability and was unable to yell for help. With his own head barely above the water,
Garrett helped to hold the young swimmer so his head was above water until the Lifeguard
was able to dive in and rescue the boy.
Garrett also received a Mount Tahoma District patch. There were only 500 made last
year and Garrett's has a blue ring around it, which only 30-40 were made of this
color.
