Friends of the Cedar River Watershed’s Stewardship in Action is continuing their
2011 workshop series with Planting and Mulching 101. This is a free workshop to
provide the public with fall planting and composting advice from the experts! The
workshop will take place at the Cedar Grange in Maple Valley on October 15 from
10 a.m.-1 p.m. Native plant expert Nisa Karimi of Friends of the Cedar River Watershed
and landscape designer Judy Blanco of the Cascade Land Conservancy will consult
on how to choose the right native plants for your property and provide hands-on
demonstrations of how planting in the fall leads to stronger, healthier plants.
They will be joined by Karen Dawson of Cedar Grove Composting. This workshop is
free and open to the public.
The workshop series is part of a full-service approach to providing the landowners
of the lower Cedar River free services to remove invasive plants such at knotweed
and replace them with landscaping that focuses on native plants. They work to ensure
they come up with planting designs that fit many different goals and needs.
